Camp BEST Update (June 4, 2020)

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

After nine successful years of offering hundreds of our local middle school children the Camp BEST summer experience, it is ending. We are dissolving the Rotary Camp Best Program. To replace the program this critical year, fellow Rotarian and Executive Director of the Monadnock Christian Ministries (MCM), Roy Baldwin, has stepped up, offering to provide 50 middle school children a camp experience. This is a terrific, hard fought outcome.

I have always focused on the mission of helping our local kids, and this opportunity is extraordinary. Roy has had to go to great lengths to meet the State of New Hampshire safety guidelines, but for the sake of the kids, he is willing to do so. We are all grateful to him.

The Camp BEST Committee has approved a grant to MCM from the remaining Camp BEST funds to cover MCM's expenses and meals. This results in fifty children being able to attend this year - once again - at no cost to the families. The Middle School will provide staffing assistance, and the SAU will provide busing for the campers. The camp director will still be there assisting Roy Baldwin, too.

We wish Roy much success, and we hope the kids have lots of fun this summer.

It has been terrific being the chairperson for the first nine years. I am hopeful that this program will continue for many years into the future as I pass the baton to Roy and his capable management team.

Yours in service,

Tonya
