Dear Rotarians,

Please be aware that there will be no morning meeting this week on Thursday, June 26th, at the Cathedral of the Pines. However, we will come together for a special evening of reflection and celebration during our Gavel Night's "Changing of the Gavel" on that SAME day.  Once again, Peter and Jinnie Russell will host our annual Gavel Night at their Jaffrey home at 4 Gilson Road from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

The evening will begin with fellowship and refreshments at 5:00pm, followed by the opening of the meeting and a warm welcome to all Rotarians and guests around 6:00 PM. During the ceremony, we will present the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition. As the outgoing President, I will share my reflections and express my gratitude, leading into the ceremonial passing of the gavel. During this tradition, past presidents will stand as I officially hand over the gavel to Incoming President Tom Hsu. President Tom will then share his remarks and vision for the new Rotary year. The evening will conclude with closing fellowship among members and guests.

Last week, our last club's round-table meeting beautifully captured the Rotary spirit. Bill Coleman opened with a heartfelt invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a spirited group performance of "America the Beautiful," with one of the best harmonies in recent memory. Our traditional Happy Fines brought laughter and connection, and we were reminded once again of the strong bonds we share as a club. Charitable Giving Chairperson Gail Therriault presented a check to Deborah Shakespeare Thurber, Founder, and Director of Project Shakespeare, who spoke passionately about how our Rotary Club's support is empowering young actors and enriching their lives through the arts.

As we reflect on this remarkable Rotary year, we take great pride in how we have truly lived out our motto, "Service Above Self."

Some of the year's most meaningful highlights include:

  • We welcomed a diverse lineup of engaging a broad spectrum of guest speakers who brought valuable insights on topics ranging from geology, terrorism, psychology, and nutrition to aging, public health, and even the fascinating world of bats in our state. We were inspired by award-winning authors and also moved by heartfelt stories shared by our own Rotarians, each of who spoke about their service to both community and country.
  • Our club successfully organized fundraising events that supported scholarships and vital local nonprofits. We provided support to food pantries in Jaffrey and Rindge, led roadside cleanups, and motivated students with welcome yard signs that read: "Dream Big, Work Hard, A Great Year Is Ahead!"
  • We worked closely with the local school board to help schedule and plan after-school programs, supported the Conant Interact Club's travel, and promoted support for youth athletic activities. We proudly recognized Students of the Month from elementary through high school by collaborating with schools and celebrating educational excellence at every level. Additionally, we awarded a scholarship to a deserving Conant High School graduate, honoring their outstanding achievements and potential.
  • Our members also devoted time and energy to beloved community events such as volunteering at the Scarecrow Festival, Main Street Halloween, community theater nights, and summer fairs. Recently, we had a wonderful hosting of our signature event: the Rotary Golf Classic at The Shattuck Golf Club.

These initiatives are more than accomplishments—they are reflections of our commitment, compassion, and community spirit. When fellowship and service come together, the results are truly transformative.

These efforts are more than a list of accomplishments—they are evidence to the enduring power of fellowship in action. When we come together with purpose, compassion, and joy, the impact we make is lasting and significant.

I am truly grateful to have served alongside all of you this past year. I want to extend a special thank you to our dedicated Board team. Your leadership, support, and creative spirit in organizing meeting agendas, guiding discussions, and reaching conclusions in all Board meetings have been instrumental to our club's success.
