Fellow Rotarians,

We do not have a meeting this week due to Independence Day.  I hope to see many of you at the Meetinghouse for the reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon on Thursday.  Camp BEST begins on Monday, July 8th, at Franklin Pierce University where we will welcome close to 90 campers.  Our next club meeting will be an Evening Meeting on Thursday, July 11th, at the Shattuck, at 5:30pm.  We will hear Bill Raymond give a presentation on Rotary - the first in a series of lessons on Rotary.  The BoD will meet the morning of the 11th at 7:30am at the Chamber of Commerce.

Thank you all for attending Gavel Night, and thanks to Jinnie and Peter Russell for hosting a fun event.  We were able to honor Bob Schaumann with a very rare plaque - one recognizing his two years of service as our president.  Additionally, Bob was honored as our newest Paul Harris Fellow by our RI Foundation Chair, Clay Hollister.  Thank you, Bob, for your service to our club.  Don't let us find that plaque for sale on eBay.

Many thanks to Harold Davis for doing a yeoman's job of taking LOTS of pictures at Gavel Night - over eighty pictures.  Thanks, Harold!

Finally, Lyn and I attended the District 7870 Gavel Night at the Little Red Schoolhouse in Wallingford, VT last evening.  Approximately 150 Rotarians from Vermont and New Hampshire watched Venu Rao hand the gavel over to Nancy Russell, our District Governor for 2019-2020.  Nancy will be visiting our club on October 10th.  If you are near Wallingford, I encourage you to visit the Little Red Schoolhouse, a memorial to Rotary's founder, Paul Harris.  The Rotary wheel in front of the schoolhouse is an impressive sight.

I look forward to working with you all throughout the next year.  Have a great week off and Happy Independence Day!

Sincerely,

Jon
